JENNIE SHARMAN-COX
JENNIE SHARMAN-COX
Jennie Sharman-Cox is a mixed media artist who draws on historical references, figurative art and sacred imagery. Using a mixture of materials to create three dimensional work, she explores the feeling of containment and restriction by creating fictional worlds for the viewer to enter and inhabit.
Her narratives examine the pressures and anxieties of our secular society, often from the female perspective. Found objects may inform the story and bring the weight of their own history. A line of poetry or a piece of text can also inspire a narrative, sometimes with humour and always a little theatricality.
Since leaving art school Jennie’s eclectic career has taken her from window dressing in London's Carnaby Street, to making theatrical costumes, from studying ceramics and setting up her own studio, to fashion design, all of which has culminated in her passion for her current three dimensional work which has been shown and collected around the world.
